LISTENING ACTIVITY
IF I WERE A BOY - BEYONCÉ

Bitmoji Image

Listening comprehension can be worked in many different and varied ways in the classroom. In this unit, I chose this song to practise my students' listening skill.

Here you have the activities they completed and the link to Beyoncé's video song:

IF I WERE A BOY - BEYONCÉ

If I were a boy even just for a day
I'd roll out of bed in the ___________
And throw on what I wanted and go
Drink beer with the guys
And chase after ___________
I'd kick it with who I wanted
And I'd never get confronted for it
'Cause they stick up for me
{Chorus}
If I were a boy
I think I could understand
How it feels to love a girl
I ___________I'd be a better man
I'd listen to her
'Cause I know how it hurts
When you lose the one you __________
'Cause he's taking you for granted
And everything you had got destroyed
{Verse}
If I were a boy
I would turn off my phone
Tell everyone it's broken
So they'd think that I was sleeping ____
I'd put myself first
And make the rules as I go
'Cause I know that she'd be faithful
Waiting for me to come ___________
To come home...
{Chorus}
If I were a boy
I think I could understand
How it feels to love a girl
I ___________I'd be a better man
I'd listen to her
'Cause I know how it hurts
When you lose the one you ________ (___________)
'Cause he's taking you for granted (granted)
And everything you had got destroyed
{Bridge}
It's a little too late for you to come back
Say it's just a ___________
Think I'd forgive you like that
If you thought I would wait for you
You thought wrong
{Chorus }
But you're just a boy
You don't understand
Yeah you don't understand, oh
How it feels to love a girl
Someday you wish you were a better ____
You don't listen to her
You don't care how it hurts
Until you lose the one you wanted
Cause you're taking her for granted
And everything you had got destroyed
But you're just a boy!

1. Fill in the blanks.
2. Try to give a definition for the expressions in bold.
3. What type of song is this? (protest, love, etc.).
4. Are there different parts in the song? Which ones? How do you know?
5. What are the things she would do "if she was a boy"? Make a list.
6. What is the message of the song? What is she trying to say? Is there anything she doesn't like?

PAPARAZZI - LADY GAGA

Hi everyone! Today, I want to share with you a worksheet I have prepared for my students to work their listening skill.

It is about famous people and celebrities and how they are treated by the media. After the worksheet, I want them to write a little composition answering the following question: What do you think about paparazzis and famous people's right to privacy?

This is the music video: Lady Gaga - Paparazzi

25 NOVEMBER - INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

Resultado de imagen de international day against gender violence"

Hi everyone! As you already know, today, 25 November, is the International Day of the Elimination of Violence against Women. This is a very remarkable day and we should include some special activities in our classroom to discuss the topic and make our students aware of this event.

In our school, this year we are celebrating a demonstration against gender violence, where everyone  is wearing a T-shirt with a slogan denouncing this situation.
In the English classroom, we have created our own T-shirt with the messages, of course, in English.

But before starting with the creative part, I made my students a question: What happens when you put a boy in front of a girl and ask him to slap her?

We brainstormed together for a while, and then I showed them a short: "Slap her": Children's reactions.

After a little debate about the short, we started creating our slogans. Here is my example:

 GRAMMAR REVIEW
LEMON TREE - FOOL'S GARDEN

Lemon Tree by Fool's Garden is a very useful song to review present simple and continuous, as you can see. I know you love songs; they are funny and attractive, and they really help you to memorize and retain new vocabulary and grammar.

Here you have the worksheet I have prepared for this song:

I'M GONNA BE (500 MILES) - THE PROCLAIMERS

Hi guys! Today, we are going to listen to I'm gonna be by The Proclaimers, which is a quite famous song (maybe you don't know it because you are too young though).

Before we listen to the song, here you have some interesting facts about it an the group:

Now, it's time to work! Here you have the worksheet:

17 MAY - INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA, TRANSPHOBIA AND BIPHOBIA

SAME LOVE - MACKLEMORE FT. RYAN LEWIS

Here you have a worksheet to introduce such an important ephemeris in the English classroom as well.

As the law reminds us, we should teach our students to be tolerant and we should try to erradicate homophobic behaviours and reject discrimination in the schools. Through songs, they can become aware of the importance of this issues and we can foster their critical thinking.

Hope you like it!

PASS THE WORD UNIT 9 - THE SENSES

AULD LANG SYNE

In Unit 9, the term Auld Lang Syne appears so I decided it is a good opportunity to learn something about it. Auld Lang Syne is a Scottish heritage song whose lyrics comes from a poem written in 1788 by Robert Burns, a Scottish poet.

Here you have the worksheet I prepared and the link to watch the video song: Auld Lang Syne.
