9 FEBRUARY - SAFE INTERNET INTERNATIONAL DAY

I love the internet

As you know, internet and ICTs are resources that we try to use in the classroom everyday because they bring us many benefits to the teaching-learning process. However, they also entail a series of dangers and problems that our students must know and be aware of.

Therefore, I decided to show them a video related to this issue: A short video called I saw your willy. The video shows how a photo can go viral in just a few hours and how hard it is to control it once it has been shared.
Here's the video:

Some questions to make students think:
  • Why did they share that picture? Was it necessary?
  •  What were the consequences?
  • How that affected the boy?
After the video, they completed this worksheet to really become aware of what can happen if a photo goes viral:

Finally, I asked them to write in groups an alternative ending for the video answering the following question:
  • After the photo had been shared, what could he have done to make sure the bullying didn’t get out of hand?

And remember... sometimes, less is more!

PROJECT UNIT 6

TV PROGRAMME

Unit 6 of our syllabus deals with the media. Thus, this time students will simulate a TV programme in which they will commemorate our history by talking about historical news. They will use THE PAST TENSES to explain the different events they will mention. Click here to watch the project presentation video I created with Genially.

PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS:

STEP 1: You will be divided in groups and then you will choose an historical event to include in your TV program.

STEP 2: You will write the script for your TV program.

FINAL TASK: Finally, you will record the TV program. You can use an app, as I did, or you can just record yourselves in the school or at home. It's up to you!

As you know, today the International Day of People with Disabilities is celebrated. In the English classroom we have decided to watch this beautiful short film: The Present.
It is a very nice video that invites to reflection and highlights the importance of not judging each others for not being perfect, or simply being different.

Our students loved it and I prepared some question for them in order to make them think and debate. It was a very interesting activity for a very special day.

Here you have the short film:
