̴ Welcome to our Online English Classroom ̴

 HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

happy halloween

Bringin our students closer to the culture and history of the countries where English is spoken is as important as teaching them vocabulary or grammar. Therefore, today we have been working on Halloween, of course. First of all, I showed my students a video about the origins of Halloween, and then we did a Quizizz to check their understanding.

Here you have the video and some of the questions:

LISTEN AND CHECK

A FUNNY GAME: GUESS THE MOVIE!

Bitmoji Image

In Unit 3, we are talking about films and TV.

Today we have played this funny game in the classroom. I have read a short synopsis of different famous film and students have tried to guess it. Here you have the ones we have worked with:

Movie 1:
The boy's world changes on his 11th birthday. A giant man informs him that he's a real wizard, and will soon go to a special wizard school. He also realizes that, in the wizard world, he's a hero. When he was a child, an evil sorcerer killed his parents and tried to kill him too; but he didn't. He has been living with his uncle, his aunt and his horrible cousin, and he hates them all. Therefore, he's very happy when he starts in his new school: it's an enormous castle! There, he becomes best friends with a boy with red hair and a very intelligent girl, with whom he will live a lot of adventures.

Movie 2:
In a dystopian future, the nation is divided into 12 districts and the Capitol. Each year two young representatives from each district are chosen by lottery to participate in a game which is broadcast throughout all the nation. The 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors and kill each others to survive; only one person can remain alive.

Movie 3:
In a happy neighborhood there is a simple black house. What the neighbors don’t know is that hidden in this home, there is secret hideout of a villain. He lives with a big army of small yellow creatures, which speak an unknown language. This villain has a plan; the most incredible plan in the history of the world: he is going to steal the moon. But someday, he meets three little orphaned girls who look at him and see something that no one else has ever seen: a potential Dad.

Movie 4:
This is the story of a little creature who lives under the sea and who dreams of going on land and meet her prince. She visits a witch, who changes her tail into two legs. Now, she can go on land, but she has completely lost her spectacular voice and she can't talk to her prince and make him fall in love.

Solutions:
1. Harry Potter
2. The Hunger Games
3. Despicable Me
4. The Little Mermaid

PROJECT UNIT 3

MOVIE TRAILER

In this project, students will create and record a movie trailer of a film they will make up.

PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS:

STEP 1: in groups or 5/6, you will decide what your films will be like. You will have to consider the following information:

Genre (comedy, drama, thriller, science-fiction...)
Plot
Characters
Name of the film
Etc.

STEP 2: you will write the scripts of the information you are going to explain in your movie trailer. All students must cooperate and participate in the video.

FINAL TASK: you will then record the video at school. You can use all the resources you want (landscape, objects, music, disguises, etc.). You will then edit the video  with the web https://www.flexclip.com/.

COLLABORATIVE WRITING: A DANGEROUS ADVENTURE

 Bitmoji Image

Today, students have prepared this activity in the classroom. In two groups, they had to write their own story, following the guidelines of the activity. Here you can see the result!

Complete one part of the story of a dangerous adventure.
Then, fold the paper over and pass it to the person on your left.

Last year my friend and I were feeling adventurous and so we decided to go to… (WHERE DID YOU DECIDED TO GO?)

In preparation for our trip, I had… (WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?)

The  day our adventure started, we were wearing… (WHAT WERE YOU WEARING?)

A little while later, we heard a growl. We turned around and saw… (WHAT DID YOU SEE AND WHAT WAS IT DOING?)

We immediately… (WHAT DID YOU DO?)

Later that day, we met a group of people who had been… (WHAT HAD THEY BEEN DOING?)

We thought it would be fun to spend some time with them so we decided to… (WHAT DID YOU DECIDED TO DO?)

The best thing that happened to us was on the last day… (WHAT HAPPENED THE LAST DAY?)

It was the perfect ending for our unusual adventure.

Group 1 Version

Group 2 Version

It was really funny and you can see both stories are completely different. Remember it is very important to foster students creativity too.
    Until next time!

BREXIT - BYE BYE UK!

Bitmoji Image

As you may have heard in the news o read in the newspapers, Brexit is already a reality. For that reason, I decided to dedicate some time in the class to talk about this issue with my students.

First of all, we watched a short explanatory video to clarify all Brexit's aspects. After that, we raised the debate: What do you think about this situation? Is it Brexit benefitial for the UK? And for the rest of Europe?

Here is the video we watched: Brexit explained in simple terms.

Have a nice week!

MY LAST TRIP

Now it's time to practise your writing skills; here you have a little activity!

Bitmoji ImageWrite about your last trip. What did you do?
Where did you go? Here you have an example:

My last holiday was fantastic. I went to the mountains in a place called Salalah in Oman. The mountains were so green and the people were so friendly. I visited many places like, forts, beaches, the hotels at night and I also went shopping in the grand mall. I stayed there for 10 days. The weather was really nice and it was great for camping. Therefore, we went camping on the mountains and made a small fire for a barbacue.

Now it is your turn! Good luck!
