AGATHA CHRISTIE - THE QUEEN OF CRIME

Agatha Christie was a British novelist with over 2 billion copies of her books in print.

The mystery surrounding her personal life,  including a high-profile disappearance in the 1920s,  has rivaled the best of her fiction.

Having sold over 2 billion novels, she is considered  the best-selling novelist of all time. She wrote 66 detective novels  and 14 short stories. She initially received some rejections to her works,  but when she created his famous detective Hercule Poirot, her success grew.

Some of her most important novels are:
  • Murder on the Orient Express
  • Death on the Nile
  • The A.B.C. Murders
  • Endless Night
Of course, some of them have been brought to screen.

PROJECT UNIT 9

BREAKING NEWS PODCAST

Hello everyone! Today, I'm here to explain you what your unit 9 project will be like. In this didactic unit students will interview a family member or friend about his/her lifestyle and ask them about tips to have a healthy lifestyle. Then, they will record a podcast reporting what he/she said. They will use reported speech and the vocabulary of the unit.

Here you have the podcast I prepared to introduce the unit.

PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS:

STEP 1: Interview a family member on his/her healthy habits. You can raise the following topics:
  • Exercise and sport
  • Eating habits (healthy food, fruits and vegetables, fast food, etc.).
  • Drinking water
  • Sleeping hours
  • Other special habits

STEP 2: Students will write the script reporting the information they have gathered after their interviews.

FINAL TASK: Finally, they will record a podcast in which they explain the different news using, of course, reported speech.

BOARD GAME:

HOW TO INTRODUCE GAMIFICATION IN THE CLASSROOM - CLASSDOJO

Gamification consists of teaching and learning through games, in a more playful, but at the same time more communicative way, given the interpersonal context of a game. These techniques allow us to increase the motivation and participation of our students, since they are closer to their reality.

Therefore, I have introduced this web to my teaching environment. It is very easy to use, because everything is already done in the web. It is basically a system of rewards and negative points, but in a more special way. Here you can see some examples of how I use it:

These are the positive points I can give to my students.

These are the negative ones.

Moreover, I have created this list of reawards. When a student gets a total of 25 points, he/she can be my assistant for a day; when he/she gets 300 points, he/she can get 1 extra point in the exam; etc.

SHOP DIALOGE

My students love role-plays, and I have prepared the following activity for them to practise their oral interaction and the vocabulary from this unit. Here you have it:

Students will listen to a dialogue between a shop owner and a customer. Later, they will create their own dialogues and prepare a role-play.

Presentation: Warming-up: Do you often ask for help when you go shopping? Now, listen to the dialogue.

/transcript/:
Shop assistant: Can I help you?

Customer: Yes, I'm looking for a dress.

Shop assistant: What size are you?

Customer: I'm an extra large. I'm looking for a plain blue dress.

Shop assistant: How about this one?

Customer: Yes, that's nice. Could I try it on?

Shop assistant: Certainly, the changing rooms are over there.

Customer: Thank you. (goes into a changing room to try on the sweater).

Shop assistant: How does it fit?

Customer: It's too large. Do you have a large?

Shop assistant: Yes, here you are. Would you like to try it on?

Customer: No that's Okay. Thank you. I'll take it. I'm also looking for some nice trousers.

Shop assistant: Great. We have some very nice trousers over here. Would you like to take a look?

Customer: Yes, thanks for your help.

Shop assistant: What do you think about these?

Customer: They're nice, but I'd prefer cotton trousers if you have them.

Shop assistant: Certainly, our summer collection is over here. How about these?

Customer: Yes, I like those. Do you have them in grey as well?

Shop assistant: Yes, here's a pair.

Customer:  I'll go try them on.

Shop assistant: Let me know if you need any help.

Customer: Thank you. (comes back).

Shop assistant: OK, how would you like to pay?

Customer: Do you take credit cards?

Shop assistant: Yes, we do. Visa, Master Card and American Express.

Customer: OK, here's my Visa.

Shop assistant: Thank you. Have a nice day!

Customer: Thank you, goodbye.

Practice: Create your own dialogues between a customer and a shop owner.

Production: Represent your dialogue.

8 MARCH - INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
ANDALUSIAN WOMEN WITH HISTORY

Bitmoji Image

In order to commemorate the International Women's Day, on March, 8, we have decided that students will choose a famous and important Andalusian womam and will create Infographics about them which will be shared in the school walls and blog.

I provided them with a list of relevant Andalusian women that they could choose:

Here you can see an example of the Infographics I created for them:
