12 JUNE - WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR

Every 12 June, Education International (EI) and its member organisations worldwide celebrate the World Day against Child Labour. It is an occasion to highlight the global extent of child labour and raise awareness on the situation of millions of children, girls and boys, working across the globe.

It is also an opportunity for us to make our students aware of problems of the global world. Thus, this year I have prepared a short video for them: Freedom from Child Labour.

We have had a debate about this issue in the classroom and, later, I have asked my students to create a virtual poster answering to the question "What can be done to end child labour?".

Here you have the video:

 WRITING ACTIVITY
PLANING A PLAYSCRIPT

You need to be prepared for your final project, the representation of a chapter of the play Oliver Twist, so, in order to practice your writing skills and practice for the project, you will have to follow this template to plan and write a playscript.

 IMPROVE YOUR ACTING SKILLS
CHARADES

As for the final project of this units, my students are going to become actors and actresses, I have prepared an activity in order to help them improve their acting skills at the same time that they use the language to communicate orally.

Charades is a very simple game: Students act our phrases or words and their teammates have to guess what is it. This is a fun, interactive game, ideal for helping to develop their speaking and vocabulary skills.

I have prepared my own charade cards, which include expressions, people or characters, animals and situations. They also include an emoji representing the card, so they have a little clue.

Here you have them:

 PROJECT UNIT 12

DRAMATIZATION - OLIVER TWIST

We are finally at the end of our journey. To say goodbye to this wonderful year, I have prepared the last project: a representation of a fragment of the book Oliver Twist.

My students and I have been reading a chapter of this book in each unit, and we have been analyzing them in depth. To put the icing on our cake, students, in groups, will choose a scene from the book and perform it in fron of the class for their classmates.

PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS:

STEP 1: You will be divided in groups and then you will choose a chapter of the book Oliver Twist.

STEP 2: You will choose a character and memorize your lines.

FINAL TASK: Finally, you perform in front of the class. Let your inner actors come out!
